| MARJORIE THOMPSON CONCERT IN THE YURT | 7:30 PM | 2 hour(s) | Singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Marjorie Thompson, with bass accompanist Greg Franklin. will offer music from her repertoire of original songs plus some traditional blues and roots. Her music is deeply influenced by the Piedmont- style, alternate thumbpicking country blues and ragtime guitarplaying genre epitomized by artists such as Rev. Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt, which were brought into the contemporary era by such artists as Dave Van Ronk and Jorma Kaukonen (Hot Tuna). Since 2001, she has amassed a body of innovative original work, touching on traditional themes and very nontraditional ones, some soul-wrenching and some more likely to elicit a smile -- in short, a body of work in the best of the folk and country blues traditions. Marjorie tours extensively for music performance in the US and Europe, and teaches guitar workshops with Jorma Kaukonen at his Fur Peace Ranch Music Camp in Pomeroy. Ohio. Audio and video clips, and tour dates are available at her website www.marjoriethompson.com. Cost: $15 |
